The director, Amina Sayeed, is a professionally trained educator with experience in teaching and school management. She earned a Masters in Education in 2000 from DePaul University. Thereafter, she spent time as a Science and Reading teacher in the City of Chicago and District 63. Also, she acted as principal of Averroes Academy Islamic school for one academic year. She is the former Literature and Writing Magnet Cluster Administrator for Chicago Public Schools, which was a literature based magnet program placed in fifty Chicago Public Schools. In addition, she received the Educational Leadership Type 075 certificate, which certifies her to work as a principal in the state of Illinois. In addition to her work in education, Mrs. Sayeed has also spent extensive time studying Islam under qualified scholars across the world. She learned the art of proper Quranic recitation [tajweed] and classical Arabic in Syria. She also completed much of the “alima” course during a two-year stay in Islamabad, Pakistan. This program involved intense study in several subjects including lessons in Arabic grammar, hadith, translation and explication of the Holy Quran, and Islamic law [fiqh]. Currently, she spends much of her time teaching these subjects, as well as other subjects, to women across the Chicagoland area.
