Sessions - Camp Busy Bees

Sessions I meets Monday through Thursday with the following schedule*:

9:30 am Discussion/Songs/Stations of Quran and Arabic**
11:00 am Snack Break
11:15 am Writing/Performance
12:30 pm Pick-up

* Frankfort's session times are not yet announced.

** Stations are a means to dividing the campers into three sections. Each section rotates among the three stations. Quran, Arabic, and Dua' are the three areas of focus; each focus is given a station. Thus, each camper is taught the three focus areas.

This summer’s focus will be “Rainbows reflect the Beauty of Allah (swt)”. Students will never look at a rainbow the same after re-discovering this overarching natural beauty that surrounds us. Age appropriate activities and student objectives are plentiful in order to cater to the individual needs of each of our campers.  From making a real rainbow to paper collage versions and relating it back to praise of Allah (swt), we’ve got the whole spectrum covered!

Participants will become equipped with a strong sense of identity, an increased level of confidence, and an appreciation of Quranic knowledge. Students will come to realize that practical Islam can be fun and even more worthwhile than other popular or commercial ways of passing time.

Students will also memorize short chapters [surahs] of the Holy Quran. Memorizing prepares the brain for in-depth learning as well as incurs the blessings of Allah (SWT). Research has proven that rote memorization increases dendritic connections of the brain, which allows for more information to be stored. Just like a refrigerator that has many compartments holds more food; so does the mind retain information when it memorizes. Often, this increase in brain usage significantly impacts students’ performance in all subjects throughout varying academic settings.

Session I: June 21st  to July 15th (all locations)*

Week 1:
Visual Arts is the way to go as campers create rainbow tasbih beads and learn to start each activity in Allah (swt)’s name.  In addition, campers will gather “good deed pixels”, which will be glued together at the end to make rainbow showcasing a collection of good deeds from the whole camp.

Week 2:
Mirrors and water are the perfect ingredients for making a rainbow for all grade levels.  The younger grades will talk about colors and see Allah (swt)’s beauty in our environment and the upper grades will discuss the power of individual white light in comparison to effective team work through the rainbow.

Week 3:
Depending on the grade level, campers will explore how their choice of color reflects their personalities.  Students will compare their colorful personalities with the colors of the Prophet’s (sws) characteristics.

Week 4:
Preparing for the Parent Gallery, all artwork and written pieces along with finalizing the “good deeds rainbow” will be showcased and presentations will be rehearsed for a polished final presentation.
